FAQ

How often should I seal my pavement? We recommend sealing your asphalt every two years. This will ensure longevity of your pavement, saving you the hefty expense down the road of having to re-asphalt your drive. What is the difference between seal coating and putting down new asphalt? Seal coating is a mineral filled asphalt emulsifier designed to protect your asphalt from UV and water damage. It will also provide a wear layer to prevent the asphalt from being worn away by friction. Replacing your asphalt involves removing the existing surface and replacing 4 inches or more of asphalt. Replacement is far more expensive that seal coating. Seal coating is equivalent to painting your house. Asphalt replacement is like redoing the siding. Why is it important to use a sealing product that is manufactured in Colorado? There are many manufactures of seal coating. The Seal Team utilizes a product designed and engineered in Denver especially for Colorado’s harsh winter climate. Paviseal is specially formulated for Colorado’s freeze/thaw cycle and UV intensity. National brands are unable to customize their product as well for Colorado. What is the difference between the a “hot” crack application and a “cold” crack application? Cold crack applications do not require melting of the crack fill material. Hot crack applications require melting the material from a solid to a liquid capable of deeply penetrating the crack. Hot fill is more elastic and better withstands Colorado’s large temperature variations.

PRODUCTS

In the past, asphalt was re-sealed using coal tar. Many of you probably remember this product from your childhood. It went on hot and had a noxious smell. Additionally, it was very hazardous to skin and the fumes were capable of causing chemical burns. Special protective clothing was required to prevent accidental contact. No more. Technological advances have changed the way that asphalt is maintained. Our products go on cool and have little odor. Special protective clothing is not required. PAVISEAL is a mineral filled emulsified asphalt sealcoating engineered in Colorado to provide superior abrasion resistance along with improved sealing ability to enhance and prolong the life of asphalt pavement. PAVISEAL is designed for use on any asphalt pavement surface such as parking lots, airports, driveways, bike paths, school yards and walk ways. PAVISEAL was engineered to prevent detrimental damage to asphalt pavement due to the damaging effects of the weather and the sun. Rain, snow, ice and frost combined with ultraviolet light can cause severe oxidation and deterioration of the binder allowing the top fines to come loose thus exposing the course aggregate. PAVISEAL seals and protects the asphalt pavement by replacing the smooth surface of fines and binders necessary to protect the pavement from the elements. PAVISEAL also returns the rich black appearance of a new asphalt pavement. Regular preventive maintenance can extend the life of asphalt pavement indefinitely.
